Art Analysis
Interlocking shapes and concentric circles
Shelly Bremmer constructs this geometric modern abstract pattern by filling a square frame with a dense arrangement of flat shapes. The composition lacks depth, instead relying on the way green, purple, orange, teal, and white forms fit together. A large set of concentric circles sits in the upper right, acting as a heavy element that balances the smaller, repeated shapes found elsewhere. The eye moves from this large circular form across a field of triangles and rectangles that cover the left side of the image.
Along the bottom edge, a row of small squares and circles creates a steady rhythm. These same small shapes reappear in different clusters throughout the work, breaking up the larger blocks of color. The use of teal and orange provides a sharp contrast against the white and purple sections, while the interlocking nature of the triangles and rectangles ensures that no single part of the frame remains empty.
