While editing photographs of his paintings, artist Lewis Deeney began to experiment with digital media, which later evolved into his Digital Evolutions project. The photographs of his painting became the inspiration for a new collection of work, the screen became his canvas and digital software his medium. No longer creatively restricted by keeping the image true to life, the edited image has become an artwork in its own right, often becoming unrecognisable from the original painting. The texture and expressive application of paint iconic to Deeney's paintings are still evident and at times amplified within the new digital image. Layering, reflecting and rotating the image, Deeney creates paradoxical, mesmerising and expansive images that feel like gazing into a geometric abstract mindscape of potential.
