Lewis Deeney

Lewis Deeney is a Scottish contemporary artist, specialising in abstract painting. Philosophically inspired, Deeney explores themes such as spirituality, technology and psychology. He has won several awards for his painting and has exhibited across the UK and Europe. Deeney live and works near Glasgow, Scotland. While editing photographs of his paintings, artist Deeney began to experiment with digital media, which later evolved into his Digital Evolutions project. The photographs of his painting became the inspiration for a new collection of work, the screen became his canvas and digital software his medium. No longer creatively restricted by keeping the image true to life, the edited image has become an artwork in its own right, often becoming unrecognisable from the original painting. The texture and expressive application of paint iconic to Deeney's paintings are still evident and at times amplified within the new digital image. Layering, reflecting and rotating the image, Deeney creates paradoxical, mesmerising and expansive images that feel like gazing into a geometric abstract mindscape of potential.
