In this work, Marja van den Hurk explores the tactile qualities of seasonal flora, focusing on the jagged edges and deep pigments of holly. The composition utilizes a squared orientation to create a sense of focused intimacy, drawing the eye toward the interplay of organic shapes and the negative space surrounding them. The approach feels grounded and deliberate, stripping away excess to highlight the essential character of the plant.

The artist employs a vintage aesthetic that favors clarity and traditional motifs over modern abstraction. By framing these natural elements within a precise square, the artwork achieves a quiet symmetry that feels both sturdy and festive. It is an exploration of texture and heritage, where the simple arrangement of leaves and berries serves as a direct invitation into the crisp atmosphere of a winter garden.
