Fine Art Photography

Fine art photography differs from standard representational or journalistic photography, in that it is created according to the vision of the photographer as an artist. Although regular photography documents an event or captures an emotion, fine art photography does this too but with added aesthetic beauty, so much so that we are happy to hang it on our walls.

Another way photography art differs, is that the artist or photographer will often add visual effects to enhance a photograph’s artistic merit. A great example is artist Jorge Luis Miraldo aka Shorsh, who mixes photography with illustration and digital art, to create his ethereal works like this piece called Glitch Beach.

Black and white photography art is a popular way to display photography prints in the home or office. They have a timeless, elegant quality and bring drama to an interior space. Two artists that epitomise this are Daniel Coulmann and Dorit Fuhg. Both create beautifully composed pieces often featuring architecture and the natural landscape, like these fine art photography prints I see fire by Daniel Coulmann and Portrait of a Highland Cow by Dorit Fuhg.

Of course these days you don’t need an expensive DSLR camera to create stunning photography artworks. Nomadic photo artist Kevin Russ spends his time camping out in the wilderness, capturing what his sees on an iPhone. This informal approach has resulted in some fantastic works such as this Street Walker Art Print.

Vintage style photography is another popular sub niche. With the right filters and effects, a modern photograph can be turned into a delightful vintage piece. Hollis Brown Thornton, an artist hailing from South Carolina, creates some fantastic vintage style photography art prints, using a mixture of techniques, like this piece titled Leo and this one called Toucan Sam.
