In this portrait-oriented study, Khokhar captures the rustic beauty of shakshuka, emphasizing the contrast between the deep, spiced tomato base and the soft, opaque whites of the eggs. The composition draws the eye downward into the pan, highlighting the bubbling surface and the organic shapes formed during the cooking process. It is a grounded observation of texture and heat, rendered with a clear appreciation for the domestic ritual of breakfast.

The vertical framing isolates the dish, stripping away the distractions of a wider kitchen setting to focus entirely on the interplay of color and form within the vessel. By treating the meal as a formal subject, the artist documents the fleeting moment before the first bite is taken, preserving the steam and the stillness of a morning well-spent. The work feels tactile and honest, rooted in the simple pleasure of nourishment.
