In this spirited watercolor, Bursic leans into the playful relationship between humans and their pets. The composition uses a bright, saturated palette to define the scene, where the soft edges of the medium mirror the relaxed, informal nature of a quiet day at home. Rather than a stiff portrait, the work feels like a captured moment of movement, with cats draped across furniture and laps in a way that feels authentic to any pet owner’s experience.

The humor of the piece lies in the sheer number of animals competing for space, turning a simple act of reading into a crowded, colorful event. By focusing on the illustrative quality of the line work and the transparency of the paint, the artist emphasizes a sense of warmth and lightheartedness. The vertical orientation draws the eye through the layers of the scene, highlighting the cozy clutter and the affectionate bond shared between the central figure and their many cats.
