In this digital illustration, Carla Daly translates the familiar silhouette of Michigan into a colorful tapestry of discovery. The work utilizes a cartoon aesthetic to simplify complex coastlines into friendly, approachable forms, inviting the viewer to trace a path through both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Its portrait orientation emphasizes the vertical stretch of the Great Lakes region, turning a navigational tool into a bright piece of visual storytelling.

By blending the precision of digital art with the warmth of traditional illustration, Daly captures the spirit of a road trip. The palette is rich and varied, moving away from the clinical tones of standard cartography toward a more emotive representation of place. It is a celebration of local identity that prioritizes the whimsy of travel and the charm of the open road over rigid topographical data.
