Mezzotint and Chine colle. I asked a local girl who went to the same school as my daughters to model for me. At the time she was 15 and had just signed up for a modeling agency. Now she is a successful fashion model travelling the world. Lucky for me to have had a couple of photo sessions with a rising star! This is one of the resulting fruits. The triptych with hands holding an apple introduces a colour to ordinarily black and white mezzotint through the use of Chine Colle technique. Chine Colle (Chinese collage) uses a coloured tissue paper applied to a print. Here, I drew the apple with watercolour pencils, cut it out and pasted to the paper on which the mezzotint was printed. Mezzotint is one of the intaglio printmaking techniques. It is similar to drypoint. The big advantage of the mezzotint method is its capacity to achieve tonal variations which no other printmaking technique has. Wikipedia gives a good overview of the technique.
