In this landscape illustration, a group of cats takes center stage as a fully realized jazz ensemble. The artist utilizes a retro cartoon aesthetic, characterized by bold shapes and expressive postures that mimic the physical sway of musicians in the groove. Each animal is rendered with a distinct personality, from the focused intensity of the drummer to the smooth lean of the saxophonist, all set against a backdrop that suggests a smoky, underground club atmosphere.

The digital execution maintains a hand-drawn warmth, leaning into mid-century design sensibilities through its flat colors and stylized geometry. By merging the whimsical nature of animal portraiture with the structured world of musical performance, Rakos creates a scene that feels both rhythmic and narrative. The composition invites the viewer to imagine the brassy sounds and steady beats produced by this unlikely band of performers.
