Following a ten-day Vipassana retreat, BNJ Photo began exploring the law of impermanence through the lens. By capturing one snapshot every minute over a fifteen-minute interval, the artist assembles a composite that illustrates the constant evolution of our surroundings. In this urban setting, the meditatress Philippine Pitsaer sits with detachment, embodying equanimity while the frantic energy of a tourist destination flows around her like water.
The resulting image functions as a study of life in motion, contrasting the stability of the meditative posture with the fleeting nature of human activity. The presence of the Canadian flag and cobblestone streets grounds the surreal technique in a recognizable cityscape, yet the layering of time strips away the specific to reveal a universal truth: everything changes, everything evolves, and everything eventually passes.
