Fibonacci Triangles Version II

d/dx art

d/dx art builds mathematical structures only to break them, finding the exact point where rigid geometry yields to a sense of motion. This piece captures the moment a balanced system of nested triangles is sliced in half, turning a static equation into a sharp, thrusting flight across the frame.

Art Analysis

From the artist, d/dx art

Half of me says this is just a cheat; the other half says this is how creativity works. The original version of this design was wonderfully balanced and symmetrical, consisting of nested triangles, their size related by the golden ratio. Trouble is, I don't really like symmetry. I like designs to have dynamism, to be going somewhere. So I was playing with the design when I accidentally knocked out half of the largest triangles and - hey presto - suddenly the design took flight, angular and thrusting. I love it. Maybe you will, too.

The Kinetic Energy of Broken Symmetry

The work began as an exercise in mathematical harmony, utilizing nested triangles scaled to the golden ratio. While the original iteration favored a stable, mirrored symmetry, the artist found the result too static for their liking. By removing half of the largest geometric forms, the composition shifted from a closed loop into an open, directional force that feels as though it is actively traveling through the space.

This shift highlights the tension between calculated design and the happy accidents that often define a creative breakthrough. The resulting arrangement of angular shapes creates a rich sense of depth and momentum, proving that sometimes the most compelling visual energy comes from disrupting the very rules that built the foundation. It is a study in how subtraction can add life to a graphic arrangement.
