In this work, Carla Daly translates the sprawling vitality of Rio de Janeiro into a structured yet whimsical vertical arrangement. The composition utilizes a portrait orientation to layer the city’s unique elements, guiding the eye from the bustling urban details at the base toward the soaring landmarks that define the skyline. The use of bold, saturated hues creates a sense of perpetual sunshine and movement, capturing the spirit of the Brazilian coast without relying on traditional realism.

Daly’s approach emphasizes clarity and joy, stripping away complex shadows in favor of clean lines and flat planes of color. By focusing on the essential shapes of the city—from its mountainous backdrop to its distinct buildings—the artist creates a visual shorthand for travel and discovery. The result is a graphic celebration of place that feels both organized and full of life, inviting the viewer to wander through a stylized version of the tropics.
