Art Analysis
The tactile rhythm of deliberate, layered gestures.
In this composition, Böhmer utilizes a vertical orientation to emphasize the downward pull and upward reach of her brushwork. The strokes are thick and tactile, suggesting a process where the paint is pushed and pulled across the surface to reveal varying depths of opacity. By focusing on the raw energy of the application, the work highlights the beauty of imperfection and the organic trail left by the artist’s tools.
The arrangement of these abstract elements creates a sense of structural harmony within the portrait frame. Rather than filling the entire space, the marks are gathered with a specific intentionality, allowing the background to act as a breathing room that anchors the intensity of the colors. It is a focused exploration of how simple lines and textures can evoke a sense of grounded, quiet strength.
The portrait orientation focuses the viewer's attention on the closeness of the subjects, heightening the sense of a private world.
The work centers on the physical act of painting, where the sweep of the brush remains visible and energetic.
A sense of grounded stability is achieved through the careful alignment of irregular shapes within the upright frame.
