In this vertical composition, Rahner explores the intersection of terrestrial botany and aquatic myth. The application of acrylic paint allows for a rich, opaque depth, creating a landscape that feels both submerged and teeming with the vitality of a wild garden. Rather than a sparse underwater void, the artist populates the scene with intricate shapes that mimic the complex structures of nature, from swaying kelp to blooming coral-like forms.

The use of a vibrant color palette defines the emotional resonance of the work, moving away from traditional blue washes toward a more prismatic interpretation of the ocean. By treating the seascape as a botanical study, Rahner emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living things, framing the mermaid figure within a dense thicket of color that suggests protection, mystery, and the raw energy of the natural world.
