Art Analysis
A Prismatic Glimpse into the Deep Tropical Canopy
In this composition, Goggin explores the intricate relationship between color and camouflage within the jungle canopy. The vertical format emphasizes the towering nature of the rainforest, allowing the viewer to look upward into a world of layered emerald leaves and sudden bursts of primary color. The parrots are not merely subjects but focal points of vitality, their forms integrated into the complex geometry of the surrounding vegetation.
Through a deliberate application of pigment and form, the work captures the humid, rustling atmosphere of a hidden grove. The artist avoids simple representation, instead favoring a tactile approach that honors the chaotic beauty of the wilderness. Each feather and leaf contributes to a sense of deep, organic immersion, inviting a slow observation of the patterns found in the natural world.
The bird is treated as a central character, captured with a level of detail that suggests a formal study of its form.
The composition uses the vertical space to layer leaves and branches, creating a sense of being deep within a thicket.
The portrait orientation draws the eye upward, emphasizing the relationship between the high moon and the receding tide.
