Despite being the artist, I am feeling especially moved by this piece I did a few weeks back. The subject matter is heart-wrenching - two Ukrainian children left homeless by the ongoing Russian war on Ukraine. As an outsider, I cannot imagine the pain and loss these children must be feeling, having lost their parents in this conflict. The older brother wears a blue scarf and holds his little sister, trying to keep her warm with a yellow blanket - the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The painterly oil effect adds to the emotion of the piece, making it feel even more raw and real. I felt moved when I posted this as it was my mom's birthday, and on some level, I can relate to the children in this art piece as I have also lost both of my parents. It seems fitting to post this artwork today in honor of my mom and to show support for all those affected by this terrible and unforgivable attack on Ukraine. Sending love and support to all those affected by this terrible conflict.
