In this work, Krygowski explores the intersection of gaming strategy and optical art. By repeating and layering the knight—the most unconventional mover on the chessboard—the artist mirrors the complex, non-linear thinking required in high-level play. The vertical orientation emphasizes a sense of hierarchy and rising tension, as if the pieces are climbing through a mental architecture of possible moves and countermoves.

The piece functions as a visual puzzle, where the negative space is just as vital as the subjects themselves. Krygowski avoids simple representation, instead opting for a rhythmic arrangement that suggests movement within a static frame. The result is a grounded study of focus and foresight, capturing the quiet intensity of a mind deep in tactical calculation.
