In this focused composition, Nazma Khokhar explores the organic geometry of a rustic sourdough loaf. The vertical orientation emphasizes the height and rise of the bread, drawing the eye across a landscape of deep, caramelized scores and the fine, powdery contrast of flour. It is an exercise in texture, where the hard exterior suggests a soft, airy interior, capturing a moment of stillness before the first slice.

There is a profound simplicity in how the artist isolates the subject, allowing the natural imperfections of the crust to become the primary narrative. By treating a staple of the kitchen with the dignity of a formal portrait, Khokhar invites a closer look at the labor and patience inherent in traditional baking. The piece resonates with a sense of warmth and domestic grounding, celebrating the raw, unadorned beauty found in the most basic elements of life.
