Art Analysis
From the artist, Melanie Viola
Layered script and upward perspective
This vertical image features the metal lattice tower positioned at a sharp angle, rising from the bottom edge toward the top left. The structure dominates the right side of the frame against a backdrop of light and dark blue patches. Overlapping the entire scene is a layer of cursive handwriting that repeats the names of the city, the landmark, and the country. The lettering varies in thickness and clarity, with some words appearing as bold, dark strokes and others as faint, light-colored marks that blend into the background.
The watercolor design uses a limited range of teal, white, and grey tones. The base of the tower is wide at the bottom, narrowing as it reaches toward the upper corner, which creates a sense of looking up from the ground. The typographic elements are scattered at different angles, some running horizontally and others tilted, filling the spaces between the metal beams and the surrounding color washes.
This piece belongs to a series of decorative works that includes a version of the same scene in pink.
