Lettering over a cloudscape
This black and white photograph places the Statue of Liberty in the lower center, appearing small against a vast sky that fills most of the frame. The view is taken from across a body of water, looking up from a low angle. Three lines of thin, large text reading "NEW YORK CITY" are layered directly over the clouds in the top half of the composition. The entire image uses a range of grey tones, from the bright whites in the sky to the dark shadows on the stone base.
The statue stands on a tiered pedestal, holding its torch and tablet while facing the water in the foreground. The arrangement emphasizes the height of the sky rather than the scale of the landmark. While the statue and its base occupy the bottom third of the picture, the superimposed lettering stretches across the upper width, creating a clear stack of visual elements from the water up to the text.
This piece provides a colorless, classical urban impression of the landmark, contrasting with other versions in the series that feature pink or turquoise marble effects.
