Art Analysis
The Golden Geometry of the Twin Cities
In this portrait-oriented map, Deificus utilizes a high-contrast palette to redefine the boundaries of Minneapolis. The city is not presented as a sprawling landscape, but as a deliberate, golden icon set against a deep, void-like background. Every arterial road and neighborhood boundary becomes a fine line of light, turning the familiar layout of the Twin Cities into a precious, intricate relic.
By isolating the city’s form, the artist invites a focused study of urban planning as a work of art. The vertical composition emphasizes the density and reach of the metropolitan area, capturing the tension between the rigid geometry of man-made structures and the organic flow of the land they occupy.
The composition uses an aerial perspective to map the density and flow of Stockholm’s unique island geography.
The use of gold tones against a dark field simplifies the city to its most essential, luminous elements.
The portrait orientation emphasizes the height of the structures and the soaring feeling of looking up through narrow city streets.
