Art Analysis
A Golden Harbor Defined by Light and Geometry
In this portrait-oriented composition, Aunulart reimagines the classic cityscape through a lens of high-contrast color and simplified geometry. The work balances the organic textures of a landscape with the clean, deliberate lines of vector art, creating a scene that feels both structured and atmospheric. The Mediterranean setting is rendered through a rich palette that suggests the heat of a setting sun reflecting off quiet waters and stacked coastal buildings.
By combining the soft bleeds of watercolor with the opacity of acrylic painting, the artist achieves a unique depth of field. The vertical format draws the eye upward from the rippling tide to the sun-drenched rooftops, emphasizing the verticality of the seaside cliffs. It is an exploration of light and shadow that prioritizes the emotional resonance of a place over literal representation, inviting a sense of calm and warmth.
The piece uses simplified shapes to represent the dense, rhythmic stacking of buildings typical of a Mediterranean port.
The interplay between the opacity of acrylic and the transparency of watercolor creates a rich, layered surface that mirrors the complexity of a coastal city.
Natural scenery is filtered through a vector-inspired aesthetic, favoring bold outlines and clear color blocking.
