Low angle over the Seine
This black and white photograph is organized into two distinct horizontal halves. The lower portion is dominated by the water of the River Seine, where a boat named NOUVELLE SEINE and METAMORPHOSIS sits in the foreground. In the upper half, the stone towers and tall spire of the Notre-Dame cathedral rise above a stone wall and a line of trees. The low viewpoint looks upward from the water's edge, making the cathedral appear to loom over the river and the mechanical parts of the boat.
The monochrome tones emphasize the textures of the stone architecture and the scattered clouds in the sky. While the cathedral occupies the top of the frame, the eye is drawn to the small details in the lower center, such as the four seats on the boat and the horizontal flow of the water. Below the image, the location is clearly identified with the words PARIS, Cathédrale Notre-Dame, and FRANCE printed in a clean arrangement.
This piece belongs to a series of urban impressions that captures famous landmarks across global cities, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.
