Pillars and distant spires
This black and white composition is divided into two distinct vertical sections. On the left, a row of tall concrete pillars dominates the foreground, reaching from the bottom edge toward the top. The right side of the frame opens up to show the distant city structures against a dark sky. A low camera angle makes the buildings seem to stretch upward, while the three lines of text are centered at the very bottom in different fonts.
The details of the architecture create a contrast between heavy and light shapes. The thick, solid pillars on the left stand in front of a building topped with a winged statue. Further back, the television tower rises with its round middle section and a thin, striped antenna that reaches the highest point in the image. The use of grey tones highlights the different textures of the stone and the metal tower.
This piece belongs to a larger series of urban impressions that focus on famous landmarks in cities like London, Paris, and New York. By isolating specific architectural elements, it follows the same approach used in the artist's views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Eiffel Tower.
