In this illustrated map, Carla Daly replaces traditional cartographic precision with a whimsical exploration of place. The composition utilizes a landscape orientation to stretch across the wide expanse of Texas, filling the space with hand-drawn motifs that represent the state’s diverse cultural and natural landmarks. Each element is rendered with a soft, approachable line quality that makes the geography feel like a lived-in neighborhood rather than a distant territory.

The color palette and spatial arrangement emphasize a sense of community and pride, turning a geographical outline into a narrative of local life. By focusing on the recognizable silhouettes and symbols that define the region, Daly creates a visual guide that feels both personal and celebratory. It is a work that encourages the viewer to linger on the small details, finding joy in the familiar shapes of a well-loved home.
