In this portrait-oriented composition, Rahner utilizes a stark black and white palette to bridge the gap between reality and the imaginary. The penguin, an inhabitant of the icy Antarctic, is recontextualized within the familiar geometry of a bathroom, creating a visual friction that is both humorous and strangely peaceful. The absence of color focuses the eye on the textures of the scene—the smooth curves of the tub against the sleek, feathered form of the bird.

By stripping away the natural environment, the artist invites a closer look at the animal as an individual character navigating a human space. The surrealist approach does not rely on melting clocks or distorted limbs, but rather on the simple, impossible presence of a flightless bird waiting for a soak. It is a study in displacement that feels intimate rather than jarring, grounded by a clean aesthetic that honors the curious nature of the subject.
