Art Analysis
From the artist, Helen Joynson
Colour and the different combinations give us energy joy, calmness and happiness to name a few.
The Vital Pulse of Pattern and Pigment
Helen Joynson approaches the canvas as a space for emotional resonance, focusing on the inherent power of color combinations to shift a viewer's perspective. By moving away from representational subjects, she allows the interactions between different pigments to take center stage, suggesting that the right balance of tones can provide a sense of happiness and vitality. The work functions as a visual battery, storing and releasing the energy found in its varied palette.
The composition is defined by a textured interplay of marks that suggest a controlled spontaneity. Each stroke contributes to a unified strategy, where the repetition of patterns creates a rhythmic quality reminiscent of modernist traditions. Through this dense layering of paint, Joynson explores complex realities, offering a piece that feels both active and serene, grounded in the simple truth that color has the capacity to nourish the spirit.
A mix of vibrant and soft pastel palettes works to communicate the complex psychology of human connection.
Visible, painterly textures and heavy oil strokes emphasize the artist's physical hand in shaping the organic forms.
The work finds a middle ground between rigid graphic design and the loose, unpredictable nature of paintwork.
Repeated marks and a squared orientation create a structured yet dynamic visual flow across the canvas without depicting literal objects.
