Art Analysis
From the artist, Yuli Saputra
The rhythmic geometry of a layered creative process.
In this portrait-oriented composition, Saputra explores the intersection of rigid geometry and fluid process. The work functions as a visual map of its own creation, where each layer of texture leaves behind a trace of previous movements, building a sense of architectural depth within a flat plane. By focusing on the interaction between shapes, the artist creates a quiet energy that feels both deliberate and alive.
The aesthetic leans into a restrained palette and clean lines, grounded by a traditional frame that anchors the modern forms. This juxtaposition allows the subtle variations in surface detail to take center stage, offering a sense of calm sophistication. It is a study in how minimal elements can hold significant weight when treated with such tactile sensitivity.
The artist utilizes refined angular shapes and faceted forms to build the dog's likeness from a series of sharp, interlocking planes.
Visible layers and tactile surfaces serve as a record of the artist's physical movements and decision-making during production.
The composition reflects a Scandi aesthetic through its clean lines and focus on the elemental simplicity of the northern landscape.
The composition uses overlapping forms and varying densities to create a three-dimensional sense of space on a two-dimensional surface.
