Art Analysis
Floating shapes over vertical stripes
This vertical composition is built from layers of geometric forms that sit over a background of thin stripes and irregular paint marks. Large circles, rings, and rectangles with rounded corners are spread across the entire surface. These shapes vary in their transparency, with some appearing solid while others allow the background drips and brushstrokes to show through. The vertical lines run from the top to the bottom edge, creating a sense of depth behind the floating shapes.
The color scheme uses gray, white, and yellow against black accents. While the background stripes provide a structured foundation, the irregular marks and drips break up the straight lines. Some of the rounded rectangles and circles overlap one another, creating new tones where the colors meet. The yellow elements stand out against the more neutral gray and white areas, drawing attention to different parts of the surface.
This piece belongs to a series of numbered abstract paintings, several of which specifically feature the combination of yellow and gray tones.
