Art Analysis
From the artist, Melanie Viola
Radiating gold and feathered ink
A tall, dark mass of black and grey marks sits in the middle of a white background. This central shape has soft, feathered edges that fade into the surrounding space. Thin gold lines sit on top of the darker tones, with several straight lines spreading out from a single spot near the center. Large gold loops and circles overlap the main form and stretch toward the edges of the frame.
The limited colors of black, grey, and gold create a clear contrast against the plain white surface. While the dark central form is the largest part of the image, the thin gold lines add a delicate layer over the heavier brushstrokes. These metallic shapes vary from straight, radiating spokes to wide, curving rings that encircle the darker core.
This piece belongs to a series of abstract designs where the artist often focuses on specific color pairings, such as gold or the combination of yellow and grey. It shares the same numbering system and focus on shape as other works like Abstract Painting No. 43 and No. 38.
