Art Analysis
The rhythmic weight of deliberate, layered gestures.
In this composition, Böhmer explores the physical weight of the medium, allowing broad brushstrokes to dictate the energy of the frame. The vertical alignment emphasizes the downward pull of the paint, creating a sense of gravity and momentum that anchors the abstract forms. Each stroke remains distinct, revealing the speed and pressure of the artist’s hand as it moves across the surface.
The interplay of light and shadow emerges from the way the colors stack upon one another, rather than through traditional perspective. By focusing on the raw mechanics of the brush, Böhmer invites a study of pure form and movement. The result is a balanced exercise in contrast, where the negative space acts as a quiet foil to the concentrated activity of the central marks.
The portrait orientation emphasizes the literal and figurative height from which the characters fall.
The work centers on the physical act of painting, where the sweep of the brush remains visible and energetic.
Böhmer builds depth by overlapping strokes, creating a tactile surface where different colors and densities interact.
