Art Analysis
The tactile rhythm of deliberate mark-making
In this piece, Böhmer explores the physical properties of her medium, allowing the bristles of the brush to leave visible tracks across the surface. The vertical orientation emphasizes the downward pull of the paint, grounding the abstract forms in a sense of gravity and intentionality. Each stroke varies in opacity, revealing glimpses of the layers beneath and suggesting a process of addition and refinement.
The composition avoids a singular focal point, instead inviting the eye to wander through the intersections of color and line. By focusing on the fundamental act of mark-making, Böhmer strips away narrative to highlight the tactile relationship between the artist’s hand and the canvas. The result is a study in form that feels both structured and deeply personal.
The portrait orientation focuses the viewer's attention on the closeness of the subjects, heightening the sense of a private world.
The work centers on the physical act of painting, where the sweep of the brush remains visible and energetic.
The artist uses physical cutouts and layered materials to build a sense of depth and history within the frame.
