Art Analysis
Where the disco ball meets the enchanted forest
Pepetto uses the medium of collage to bridge the gap between Elizabethan drama and the neon-lit energy of the disco era. By placing the iconic silhouette of Saturday Night Fever into the whimsical setting of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the artist highlights the shared theatricality of these two distinct worlds. The result is a humorous exploration of how different eras celebrate movement and spectacle, framed within a classic aesthetic that grounds the absurdity of the mashup.
The piece leans into a retro sensibility, blending the physical appearance of pop culture icons with the lush, illustrated textures of historical fantasy. It invites a playful look at cultural phenomena, suggesting that whether one is lost in a magical glade or under a disco ball, the desire for expression remains the same. The juxtaposition of a three-piece suit against a backdrop of ancient folklore creates a surrealist landscape where the rules of time and logic are joyfully suspended.
The piece blends the high drama of Shakespearean literature with the pop-culture magnetism of 1970s cinema.
This piece fuses nostalgic design elements with dreamlike, supernatural imagery to create a sense of wonder.
By contrasting Elizabethan aesthetics with the disco era, the work explores how different time periods visualize celebration.
The central figure's pose reflects a specific strategy for emotional and physical display common to both stage and dance floor.
