Sarah Kia is an architect and visual artist whose practice is rooted in the intersection of structural design and natural form. A graduate of Virginia Tech, where she earned the 2012 Pella Prize, Kia furthered her studies at the Bauhaus iAAD in Weimar, Germany. This period solidified her interest in modernist principles and the inherent textures of raw materials. Currently a Senior Architect at Faulkner Architects, Kia brings a builder’s eye to her landscape photography and watercolor paintings. Her work focuses on open vistas and sensory-attuned details, often exploring the same clarity found in her professional projects featured in Architectural Record’s "Record Houses" series.

Visual voice

Kia’s aesthetic balances the precision of architectural training with the fluid nature of open landscapes. Her work highlights the tactile qualities of natural materials and the quiet geometry found in the environment.
