About Jens

Every sale pays Jens directly.A meaningful share of each purchase goes to the artist.

Jens Ochlich is a German-born photographer based in San Diego who captures the architectural and cultural landscape of Southern California. Primarily self-taught, Ochlich moved to the United States in 2000, driven by a desire to document the Americana and mid-century modernism he first encountered through media during his youth. His practice draws from the structural precision of Bauhaus minimalism and the New Topographics movement. Ochlich’s work often focuses on the intersection of vintage automobiles and urban nightscapes, rendered under what he describes as a bleached photonic patina. By channeling the influence of architectural photographer Julius Shulman, he explores a nostalgic vision of his adopted home. His photography has earned recognition at The Other Art Fair and a first-place win in the Travel category at the 2021 Chromatic Awards for his image "Hudson Hornet."

Visual voice

Ochlich’s aesthetic centers on the clean lines of mid-century architecture and the nostalgic silhouettes of vintage cars. His compositions utilize the harsh, bright light of the West Coast to create a sense of quiet Americana, often set against urban nightscapes.
