Art Analysis
From the artist, Melanie Viola
Low angle and desaturated tones
This photograph uses a low viewpoint to place two palm trees against a wide sky. The trees stand in the center of the lower half of the frame, where a rocky slope climbs from the bottom left toward the right. The sky and thin clouds fill the entire upper half and the background, creating the minimalist look the artist describes. The composition is split nearly in half between the solid ground and the open air.
The colors are muted throughout the image. Light blue and off-white tones in the sky and rocks match the desaturated greens and tans of the palm fronds. The tree on the left stands slightly taller than its companion, and both are framed by the pale, rocky surface behind them. No bright colors or sharp contrasts break the soft, vintage appearance of the scene.
