Low perspective and streaking clouds
This monochrome photograph uses a low viewpoint to capture the span of a suspension bridge across the water. The composition is anchored by a large stone tower on the left, which connects to a smaller tower on the right through a network of cables. These cables are marked by small points of light that lead the eye toward the illuminated skyscrapers of the Manhattan skyline. The water fills the bottom third of the frame, acting as a dark surface that catches and holds the reflections from the city lights.
The sky above the urban landscape features long, blurred streaks of clouds that contrast with the sharp, geometric shapes of the buildings below. On the right side of the skyline, a single skyscraper stands taller than the rest, balancing the weight of the stone bridge tower on the opposite side. In the lower left, a glass building on a pier provides a clear, rectangular shape near the edge of the water, while the bridge itself creates a diagonal path through the center of the image.
