Art Analysis
From the artist, Branka Kodžoman
Bold botanical forms rendered in wine and terracotta washes.
In this botanical study, Kodžoman strips away the intricate details of nature to focus on the raw architecture of the flower. The oversized petals are rendered in a sophisticated palette of terracotta and blush, bleeding into one another with the organic unpredictability of the watercolour medium. These expressive forms are grounded by a neutral beige backdrop, which allows the rich wine tones to resonate without overwhelming the viewer.
The arrangement prioritizes a sense of balance through its minimal approach, using negative space to give the heavy, saturated blossoms room to breathe. By simplifying the floral anatomy into broad strokes and soft edges, the artist creates a visual language that feels both grounded and ethereal. The result is a portrait of growth that feels quiet, intentional, and deeply rooted in the physical presence of the pigments.
The work focuses on the intricate shapes and layered textures of plant life found in a traditional market setting.
The artist leverages the bleeding and pooling of wet pigment to suggest the organic, underwater origins of the form.
The artwork utilizes a reduced visual language to emphasize the clarity of its fundamental forms.
