Vavá (born Vavá Ribeiro) is a Brazilian visual artist, photographer, and director who operates between New York, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro. After beginning his creative journey in design school and studying painting in Brazil, he moved to New York City to commit to a full-time career in photography. This transition allowed him to develop a sensorial and intimate visual language that bridges his painterly roots with the immediacy of the lens. His practice frequently explores the intersections of youth culture, beach life, and the spiritual depth of Amazonian folklore. These themes are central to his major projects, including the documentary series Encantado: Echoes of the Invisible Amazon and his photobook North Shore. Ribeiro’s work has been exhibited across France, Brazil, Japan, and the Netherlands, earning him the Jury’s Special Award at the Festival des Arts de la Mode in Hyères.
