Samuel Sultana is a French-Maltese visual artist born in 1990. Following an apprenticeship under artist Rupert Cefai, he completed his formal training at Kingston University and the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury. A co-founder of the Izaxa creative collective, Sultana established his presence in the art world with a 2014 solo debut at the Malta Society of Arts and his participation in the 2016 Divergent Thinkers exhibition. His practice is defined by a bold and explosive application of acrylic house paint. By physically rotating his canvases during the creative process, Sultana develops multi-layered abstract compositions. His work is deeply informed by the CoBrA movement and prehistoric motifs, seeking to capture the primal tension between destruction and creation.
