Stacked bands and mirrored marks
This vertical composition is built on a clear division between two color fields. The top half features grey horizontal bands that become darker as they move toward the center. Below this, yellow bands transition from a deep tone at the middle to a lighter shade at the bottom edge. This arrangement creates a mirrored effect where the darkest tones meet at the center of the image.
A narrow cluster of small, thin rectangles sits exactly where the grey and yellow sections join. These marks change color based on their background, appearing yellow against the grey bands and grey against the yellow bands. This shift in color links the two halves of the image together. The work follows the artist's interest in minimalistic graphic art by using a limited range of grey, white, and yellow tones.
As part of a larger series, this piece continues a study of shapes and colors seen in other numbered works, specifically sharing a color scheme with Abstract Painting No. 53.
