After transitioning from a career in nursing to professional art in 1979, she later earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Victoria. With over 45 solo exhibitions, Saunders has established a significant presence in the Canadian art scene, including serving as the inaugural artist-in-residence at the Union Club of British Columbia.
