Hollis Brown Thornton was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, where he currently maintains a full-time practice in a warehouse studio. After earning his BFA from the University of South Carolina in 1999, he established a studio in Columbia and held his debut solo exhibition in early 2000. Thornton’s career includes several years in the Chicago art scene, where he served as a Gallery Director and Assistant Preparator. Since returning to Aiken in 2005, he has balanced his creative work with family life and local entrepreneurship, opening a clothing boutique with his wife and raising their daughter, Leona.
