Born and raised in New York City, Ben Zank began his photographic journey at eighteen after discovering a vintage camera in his grandmother’s attic. As a self-taught artist, he developed a distinct visual language that uses the body as a sculptural tool to navigate the complexities of the human condition. His practice has evolved from solitary self-portraits into a broader exploration of performance and surrealism, leading to solo exhibitions in Berlin, Shanghai, and Brooklyn. Through his debut hardcover book, Nothing to See Here, Zank continues to document the tension between the individual and their environment with a sharp, minimalist edge.

Visual voice

Zank’s aesthetic is defined by bizarre minimalism, utilizing faceless, contorted figures to create striking geometric compositions. His work leans heavily into surrealism, using isolation and physical placement to explore themes of identity and the internal self.
