Ali Gulec is an Istanbul-based visual artist and graphic designer who co-founded ikiiki Design Studio in 2006. After completing his studies in industrial design at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, he developed a practice that merges digital and traditional collage with photography and hand-drawing. Working from his studio in Turkey, Gulec produces prints that have been exhibited internationally, including at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago and Galerie Sakura in Paris. Gulec’s work is characterized by an exploration of the intersection between life and death. He frequently utilizes skulls and other mortality symbols, reimagining them through intricate floral, organic, and geometric patterns. This approach allows his imagery to oscillate between the macabre and the absurd, creating a distinct visual language that has become a hallmark of his portfolio.

Visual voice

Gulec’s aesthetic is defined by a surrealist approach to anatomy, specifically within his skull-centric series titled "The Message."
